Dear Colleagues, Parents, and Others:

I want to welcome you to a new school year and let you know about an exciting new feature here on the PED’s website. We know that educators and others are eager to know about Response to Intervention (RtI) and how it fits with the scope of school reform and improvement, so we have designed a one-stop shop about the RtI framework and New Mexico’s model on our website.  Simply look at the right-hand side of this page. There you will see a section called Most Requested. Click on the link for Response to Intervention (RtI) to get to our new RtI Home page. To get acquainted, read the opening page and then take the tour by clicking on the various links.

I am confident that you will find information and resources on the RtI website that you can put to work for you right away as you ramp up efforts to understand and implement the three-tier model of student intervention—New Mexico’s RtI framework to improve student achievement and behavior. In particular, you will want to check out the upcoming professional development events, as well as federal guidance in the Policy section for “Coordinated Early Intervening Services (CEIS)” which sets forth how local agencies may use CEIS funds to address RtI. We also invite you to visit the RtI Journeys section where you can see how you can share your ideas and stories about implementing the RtI framework. We would enjoy hearing from you. Check back often for updates and new resources. If you have any questions or comments, please call Phyllis Bass in the PED’s Quality Assurance Bureau at (505) 827-6952 or email her at Phyllis.Bass@state.nm.us.

Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of New Mexico’s students.

Truly,

Veronica C. García, Ed. D.
Secretary of Education
