Navajo Nation to Administer Language Certification Tests

(Santa Fe, NM) — The Office of Dine Culture, Language and Community Services of the Navajo Nation Division of Dine Education, will begin administering tests for individuals seeking certification for teaching Navajo language and culture in grades K-12.
Below is a schedule of test dates, time, and place:

The Native American Language and Culture certification legislation was passed by the New Mexico legislature in 2002. This legislation recognizes New Mexico tribes’ authority to identify individuals to teach their native languages and to develop the criteria, standards, and procedures for tribal members to become Native American language and culture teachers for their children.
